Darwin, August 12, 2025: Dewald Brevis produced a record-breaking innings to fire South Africa to a 53-run victory over Australia in the second T20I, levelling the three-match series 1-1.

The 21-year-old struck South Africa’s highest individual T20I score — an unbeaten 125 off just 59 balls — also becoming the youngest South African to score a century in the format. His 41-ball hundred was the team’s second-fastest in T20Is, featuring 12 fours and eight sixes, with 66 of his runs coming in the ‘V’. Brevis shared a 126-run fourth-wicket stand with Tristan Stubbs, scoring 91 of them himself.

South Africa posted 218 for 7, their best total against Australia, as Corbin Bosch (3-20) and teenage left-arm quick Kwena Maphaka (3-57) later combined to restrict the hosts to 165 all out. Tim David top-scored for Australia with 50, but the chase faltered after his dismissal to Kagiso Rabada at 104 for 3 in the 10th over.

Brevis, dropped on 56, tore into Glenn Maxwell in the 12th over, smashing three sixes and a four to race from 44 to 66 in four balls. He brought up his hundred with a pull off Ben Dwarshuis in the 15th over and ensured South Africa’s strong finish despite a late flurry of wickets.

Australia, chasing what would have been a record target on home soil, saw their nine-match unbeaten run batting second come to an end. It was also their first defeat to South Africa in seven T20I meetings and the Proteas’ biggest margin of victory over the hosts.

The deciding match will be played in Cairns on Saturday.
