Peshawar, October 10,2024- A significant Grand Jirga has commenced in Peshawar, hosted by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, aimed at addressing the pressing security and peace issues in the region. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is attending on behalf of the federal government, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi also in participation.

The Jirga has brought together a diverse range of political leaders and members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly from various parties, including prominent figures such as Aimal Wali Khan, Professor Ibrahim, Mohsin Dawar, Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha, Sikandar Sherpao, Provincial Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, Leader of the Opposition Dr. Ibad, and Federal Minister Amir Maqam.

During his opening remarks, Chief Minister Gandapur thanked all political leaders and parliamentarians for their participation and trust in his leadership of the Jirga. He stressed that the gathering transcends political divisions, united by the shared goal of establishing peace in the province.

“Our top priority is the safety and security of every citizen, whether they are civilians or security personnel. Through this Jirga, I am confident we can pave the way for a peaceful resolution to the challenges we face,” said Gandapur. He reiterated that dialogue, not conflict or violence, is the only viable solution, citing Pashtun traditions of resolving disputes through negotiation.

Governor Faisal Karim Kundi echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is the Jirga’s sole agenda. He expressed his appreciation for the provincial government’s initiative and thanked Interior Minister Naqvi for his participation. Kundi underscored the importance of setting aside political differences for the greater good of the province.

“While we may have our political disagreements, the peace and prosperity of the province must come first. Negotiations are key to resolving any conflict, as we’ve seen with the international community’s consensus on the Afghanistan issue,” Kundi remarked.

Referencing the recent tragic incident in Khyber, Kundi warned that time is running out to restore order, urging all stakeholders to come to the negotiating table. He called for talks with groups willing to respect the constitution and law, noting that both provincial and federal authorities would need to address the demands.

“The security situation in the province remains precarious, with several areas still classified as no-go zones. It is imperative that we unite to bring peace and stability back to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” Kundi concluded. This Jirga marks a crucial step in the collective effort to address ongoing conflicts and chart a path toward sustainable peace in the region.
