Islamabad, August 25, 2025: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has announced his decision to resign from the party position, saying he will meet PTI founder Imran Khan on Tuesday to formally request release from his duties.
“Today, an incident has occurred that demands a clear-cut decision from me. My life is an open book. None of my actions conflict with any principle. Tomorrow, I will request Imran Khan to relieve me from this position,” Raja said in a post on X.
The senior lawyer, who was appointed PTI secretary general in September last year after Omar Ayub’s resignation, clarified that he would continue to provide legal services to the party free of cost. “During PTI’s ordeal, I entered the political arena alongside legal assistance under Imran Khan’s guidance. My aim was to contribute to the struggle for the supremacy of the Constitution, law, and democracy,” he said.
According to party sources, Raja’s decision follows a disagreement with Aleema Khan over PTI’s participation in the upcoming by-elections. Aleema reportedly opposed contesting, citing Imran Khan’s instructions, while Raja conveyed the political committee’s position, which showed 13 members in favour and nine against. The dispute is said to have left him disheartened, prompting his decision to step aside.
