Multan, October 11, 2024 – England triumphed in the first Test match against Pakistan in Multan with a commanding innings victory. The visitors posted a mammoth 823/7, the fourth-highest team total in Test cricket history. Harry Brook’s remarkable 317 and Joe Root’s impressive 262 were central to England’s dominance, as the pair put together a record-breaking 454-run partnership, setting a new benchmark for England’s highest Test stand.

Pakistan, despite scoring 556 in their first innings, buckled under England’s pressure in their second innings. They were left reeling at 152/6 by the end of day four, facing an inevitable innings defeat. Salman Agha and Aamer Jamal provided some resistance, but Pakistan’s batting collapse sealed their fate. It marked the first time in Test history that a team lost by an innings after scoring over 500 in the first innings.

England’s bowlers, led by Chris Woakes and Gus Atkinson, capitalized on every opportunity on a pitch that was expected to favor the batsmen, as Pakistan succumbed to a record sixth consecutive Test defeat
