Islamabad, October 12,2024- Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar announced that the government will issue a notification on October 24, specifying the venue for the oath-taking ceremony of the new Chief Justice. Speaking to the media in Islamabad, Tarar stated that the deadline for issuing the notification regarding the new Chief Justice’s appointment is October 24. He clarified that such notifications are typically issued a day or two before the official appointment. However, the notification for Justice Qazi Faez Isa’s appointment was released earlier due to the caretaker government taking charge.

The minister further shared that a subcommittee of the parliamentary committee has formed a group of legal experts. He mentioned that a constitutional amendment could take place after October 25, or even two months later, and discussions are ongoing on four to five key items. Addressing concerns over the timing, Tarar remarked, “What’s the hurry? It’s already been a month and a half.” He explained that in the past, judges were appointed by the Governor-General, the President, or Martial Law administrators, and in the U.S., this power rests with the President.
