Washington, September 8, 2025: US President Donald Trump has said his administration is working on a proposal to end the war in Gaza, hours after issuing what he described as a “last warning” to Hamas.
Speaking to reporters after returning from New York on Sunday, Trump said a breakthrough could be imminent.
“We’re working on a solution that may be very good,” he remarked, calling the conflict — which has left Gaza devastated and dozens of Israeli hostages in captivity — a “hell of a problem.”
He added: “It’s a problem we want to solve for the Middle East, for Israel, for everybody. But it’s a problem we’re going to get done. You’ll be hearing about it pretty soon. We’re trying to get it ended, get the hostages back.”
Earlier in the day, Trump claimed Israel had already accepted his terms for a ceasefire, and urged Hamas to do the same, warning of unspecified “consequences” if it refused.
“The Israelis have accepted my terms. It is time for Hamas to accept as well,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “This is my last warning, there will not be another one!”
US officials have frequently asserted that Israel has supported ceasefire initiatives, even as Israeli leaders vowed to intensify military operations. Rights groups and international scholars continue to denounce the war as a genocide.
The conflict, now in its 23rd month, has killed tens of thousands in Gaza and displaced millions, while repeated mediation efforts by the US, Egypt, and Qatar have failed to produce a lasting truce.
