Dubai, September 13, 2025: Despite being the official host of the Asia Cup 2025, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is unlikely to be visibly represented at Sunday’s much-anticipated India-Pakistan clash in Dubai, Indian media reported Saturday.

According to Dainik Jagran, senior BCCI figures, including Secretary Devajit Saikia, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal, Treasurer Prabhtej Bhatia, and Joint Secretary Rohan Desai, are not expected to travel to the UAE. At most, a single BCCI representative may attend the match, the report added.

The development comes against the backdrop of lingering tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 earlier this year, and India’s subsequent Operation Sindoor targeting militants in Pakistan. Calls from fans and former cricketers to boycott Pakistan altogether forced the BCCI into a delicate balancing act, with the government permitting participation only in multilateral events.

A senior BCCI member, quoted by Dainik Jagran, explained the absence: “We agreed to play after government approval. But if we are seen on camera during the match, there will be attempts to create pressure against us.” Reports suggest officials may appear only if India secures victory.

The only senior figure expected is Rajeev Shukla, acting BCCI president and ACC executive board member, who may attend in an official capacity. Meanwhile, ICC Chairman Jay Shah is abroad and will also miss the game.

Off the field, the controversy has overshadowed the buildup, but on the pitch, the stage is set for a blockbuster. India, led by star performers Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Kuldeep Yadav, enter as favourites. Pakistan, under new skipper Salman Ali Agha, will look to youngsters Saim Ayub, Hasan Nawaz, and mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed to spring a surprise.

With the T20 World Cup fast approaching, Sunday’s clash is more than just cricket — it’s a test of nerves, politics, and pride.
