Quetta, September 23, 2025: At least four people, including a child, were injured when a blast derailed six bogies of the Jaffar Express near Spezand town in Dasht tehsil of Balochistan’s Mastung district on Tuesday, officials confirmed.

According to Dr. Waseem Baig, spokesperson for the Balochistan Health Department and Quetta Civil Hospital, three of the injured were shifted to the Civil Hospital Trauma Centre, while an injured child was moved to the Combined Military Hospital.

Pakistan Railways’ Quetta division public relations officer Muhammad Kashif said the passenger train, travelling from Peshawar to Quetta with 270 passengers on board, was struck when militants blew up a section of the track with explosives.

“Six bogies were derailed due to the blast. A relief train, rescue teams, and private cranes were dispatched from Quetta for emergency operations,” Kashif said, adding that repair work on the track and removal of the bogies would begin in daylight. An investigation into the attack has been launched.

Security forces cordoned off the area and began a search operation soon after the incident.

Tuesday’s attack is the latest in a series of assaults on Balochistan’s railway infrastructure. Last month, six bogies were derailed near the same location, while just three days earlier another Quetta-bound Jaffar Express narrowly escaped disaster in Sibi when a bomb detonated moments after the train had passed.
