Ahmedabad, October 4, 2025: Ravindra Jadeja delivered a match-winning all-round performance as India thrashed West Indies by an innings and 140 runs in the opening Test of the new home season. The hosts wrapped up victory inside three days after bowling out the visitors for 146 in their second innings.

India had earlier piled up 448 for 5, built on a fine century from wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel (125) and Jadeja’s unbeaten 104. In reply, West Indies crumbled to 162 in the first innings, with Mohammed Siraj (4-40) and Jasprit Bumrah (3-42) running through the batting. Their struggles continued in the second innings, where Jadeja claimed 4 for 54 and Siraj added 3 for 31.

The win carried symbolic weight for India. It came in their first home Test in 12 years without R Ashwin, who retired last year. Jadeja, 36, stepped up in style with a century and a four-wicket haul, echoing his long-standing value since India’s remarkable run of dominance at home began in 2013.

For the West Indies, Alick Athanaze stood out with a fighting 38, showing glimpses of his skill against spin. But the visitors’ batting frailties were exposed yet again, with openers John Campbell (8 and 14) and Tagenarine Chanderpaul (0 and 8) offering little resistance. Jomel Warrican’s bizarre dismissal — losing his grip on the bat while holing out — summed up the visitors’ woes.

Siraj’s seven wickets across both innings marked his first five-plus haul in a home Test, further underlining India’s depth in pace.

The defeat extended West Indies’ winless run in India to 31 years. With the second Test starting in Delhi in five days’ time, Daren Sammy’s side face urgent questions over their top order and bowling resources.

Match Summary:

  • India 448/5 (Jurel 125, Jadeja 104, R. Chase 2-90)*
  • West Indies 162 (Greaves 32, Siraj 4-40, Bumrah 3-42) & 146 (Athanaze 38, Jadeja 4-54, Siraj 3-31)
  • India won by an innings and 140 runs
