Islamabad, October 6, 2025: Ethiopia and Pakistan have agreed to enhance defence and aviation cooperation for further strengthening their bilateral relations.

The discussion took place on Monday during a meeting between Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary of the FDR Ethiopia to Pakistan, and Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Federal Minister of Defence for Pakistan.

The two sides discussed growing bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Ethiopia and Pakistan in various areas including peace and security, defence, aviation, climate change, trade and investment, culture, and tourism.

The Ambassador briefed the Federal Minister about the recent inauguration of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), which is built on the principle of equitable and reasonable utilization of water, fostering regional integration without causing any significant harm to any other country.

Furthermore, the Ambassador emphasized Ethiopia’s significant advancements in the aviation sector and expressed a keen interest in expanding flight destinations to Pakistan, in addition to the existing Karachi route.

The Federal Minister lauded the visionary leadership of Ethiopia, commending the transformative initiatives undertaken by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed to advance socio-economic development and prosperity in the country.

He also praised Ethiopia’s pivotal role in promoting peace, security, and stability in the Horn of Africa, affirming Pakistan’s unwavering support for these efforts.
