Delhi, October 10, 2025: Yashasvi Jaiswal’s sublime unbeaten 173 powered India to a commanding position on the opening day of the second Test against West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Friday.

Opting to bat first, captain Shubman Gill’s decision paid off handsomely as India closed day one on 318 for 2, with Jaiswal and Gill unbeaten at the crease.

India made a steady start before losing KL Rahul for 38 in the 18th over, dismissed by left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican. Rahul’s brisk knock came off 54 balls and included five fours and a six.

Following his departure, Sai Sudharsan joined Jaiswal, and the pair stitched together a fluent 193-run stand for the second wicket, frustrating the West Indian bowlers through disciplined shot selection and composed batting.

Sudharsan fell late in the day to Warrican for a well-crafted 87 off 165 deliveries, hitting 12 boundaries, but by then India had already crossed the 250-run mark.

Skipper Gill (20* off 68 balls) then partnered with Jaiswal to add an unbroken 67-run stand for the third wicket, ensuring India maintained their dominance heading into day two.

Jaiswal remained the standout performer, compiling his 173 not out from 253 balls, decorated with 22 fours in a masterclass of patience and timing.

Warrican was the only successful bowler for West Indies, taking both wickets to fall as the rest of the attack toiled without reward.

With India already in a strong position at stumps, all eyes will be on Jaiswal on Saturday as he looks to convert his brilliant innings into a double century and guide India toward a mammoth first-innings total.
