Islamabad, October 17, 2024 – The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has categorically dismissed accusations against its President, Mr. Atif Ikram Sheikh, labelling them as baseless and politically motivated. In a press release issued on Thursday, the FPCCI condemned the allegations made by a former member of the previous ruling group, describing the individual as “disgruntled and frustrated” following a decisive defeat in the recent FPCCI elections.

The statement emphasized that the accuser, who was part of a leadership marred by four years of mismanagement, is now attempting to discredit the success of the current administration. “These statements reflect the desperation of a failed leader who is now resorting to false narratives,” the FPCCI said.

The press release highlighted Mr. Sheikh’s achievements in the past 10 months, which it claimed surpassed the accomplishments of the previous leadership’s entire tenure. Notable milestones include:

  • SCO Business and Investment Conference in Islamabad, which saw the participation of eight member states and marked a significant diplomatic and economic engagement for Pakistan.
  • The 1st FPCCI Excellence Awards at Aiwan-e-Sadr, attended by the President of Pakistan, celebrating outstanding achievements across various sectors and elevating FPCCI’s national stature.
  • Representation at the SCO Heads of State Meeting, where Mr. Sheikh represented not only Pakistan’s business community but also the interests of all SCO member countries before prime ministers and heads of government.

FPCCI stated that these accomplishments reflect the “dynamic and dedicated leadership” of Mr. Sheikh, which has restored the organization’s credibility after years of stagnation. The press release criticized the former leadership for leaving FPCCI’s Capital Office in disarray, sidelining elected officials, and allowing unelected individuals to mismanage affairs.

The statement further alleged that the individual behind the accusations has a history of fraudulent activities and even served time in jail, undermining the credibility of the claims. FPCCI also dismissed rumors of plans to relocate its head office to Islamabad, calling them fabrications and pointing to records of Executive Committee Meetings that show the opposition had originally proposed such moves.

In a bold challenge to critics, the FPCCI invited them to present a report of their activities during their four years in power and compare them with the achievements of Mr. Sheikh’s administration. “It is clear they have nothing substantial to show and are driven by jealousy and resentment,” the FPCCI said.

The business community, according to the press release, remains united in its support for Mr. Sheikh and his “visionary leadership.” The FPCCI vowed to continue serving Pakistan’s business interests under his guidance, undeterred by “false and malicious accusations.”

The press release concluded with a firm message of solidarity: “Mr. Atif Ikram Sheikh will remain steadfast in his commitment to the business community, continuing to work with dedication and integrity.”
