Islamabad, October 14, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday strongly condemned a terrorist attack targeting a polio vaccination team in Swat’s Matta area, which claimed the life of a security official assigned to protect the health workers.

In a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep grief and sorrow over the martyrdom of Levies personnel Abdul Kabeer, who was performing his duty to safeguard the vaccination team.

The prime minister prayed for the eternal peace of the martyred soul and the patience and strength of the bereaved family to bear the loss.

Calling the assault an act of cowardice, the premier said that attacks on those serving a noble humanitarian mission were intolerable.

“The government is committed to the complete eradication of polio from Pakistan. Despite such resistance from terrorists, the anti-polio campaign continues with full momentum and will go on until the disease is completely eradicated,” the prime minister reaffirmed.

Pakistan remains one of the few countries where the polio virus continues to circulate, and frontline health workers often face security threats while administering vaccines in remote or high-risk areas.
