Perth, October 19, 2025: Australia cruised to a comfortable seven-wicket win over India in the rain-affected first ODI of the three-match series at Optus Stadium on Sunday, taking a 1–0 lead.
Frequent rain interruptions reduced the contest to 26 overs per side, with India struggling to post 136 for 9. Australia’s revised target under the DLS method was 131, which they chased down with 4.5 overs to spare.
India’s batting faltered as KL Rahul top-scored with 38 off 31, while Axar Patel added 31 off 38. Skipper Rohit Sharma (8), Virat Kohli (3), and Shubman Gill (10) fell cheaply as Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Owen, and Matthew Kuhnemann each claimed two wickets.
Chasing a modest total, Australia overcame early setbacks thanks to skipper Mitchell Marsh’s unbeaten 46 off 52 balls. He anchored key partnerships with Josh Philippe (37) and Matt Renshaw (21 not out) to seal the victory.
The second ODI will be played in Adelaide on Wednesday.
