No time limit set for Pakistan-Afghanistan ceasefire, says Khawaja Asif

Islamabad, October 21, 2025: Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has clarified that the ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and Afghanistan, reached in Qatar, does not carry any time limit.

Speaking about the agreement, the minister said it was clearly stated that there would be no cross-border incursions and that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) would not be provided any support or facilitation from Afghan soil.

Khawaja Asif noted that Pakistan has repeatedly raised this concern, although Afghanistan continues to deny it. “Turkey and Qatar emphasized that the core issue is the use of Afghan territory or backing of the TTP to carry out attacks inside Pakistan,” he said, adding that Pakistan has made it clear that the entire understanding depends on that single clause.

He further explained that the ceasefire agreement does not include any fixed duration or review date. “There was no time limit set that after a certain date the agreement would be extended. The ceasefire remains in place as long as the terms of the agreement are not violated,” Asif said.

It may be recalled that Pakistan and Afghanistan recently reached a ceasefire agreement in Doha, with Qatar and Turkey facilitating the process. Both sides are scheduled to meet again in Turkey from October 25 to 27 to discuss implementation of the agreement.
