Islamabad, October 22, 2025: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has granted the Punjab government a four-week deadline to complete new delimitations for the upcoming local government (LG) elections in the province.

According to ECP sources, the provincial administration has been instructed to carry out the exercise in line with the Punjab Local Government Act, 2025, recently passed by the provincial assembly.

The Punjab government had earlier sought a four-week extension to finalize constituency boundaries, a request the ECP has now formally approved. In an official communication to the Punjab Chief Secretary, the ECP Secretary confirmed the approval while cautioning that failure to meet the revised deadline would compel the Commission to take the matter into its own hands.

The ECP has also directed the provincial government to submit updated maps and relevant data during this period to ensure the smooth execution of the delimitation process.

Officials further confirmed that the upcoming local government elections in Punjab will be held under the provisions of the new 2025 Act. Consequently, the delimitation schedule previously issued on October 9 has been officially withdrawn.
