Sydney, October 25, 2025: Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli achieved another historic milestone on Saturday, overtaking Kumar Sangakkara to become the second-highest run-scorer in One Day Internationals (ODIs) during the third and final match against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

Kohli played a match-winning innings of 74 off 81 balls, featuring eight boundaries, to guide India to a comprehensive nine-wicket victory. With this knock, the 37-year-old now has 14,255 runs in 305 ODIs at an average of 57.71 and a strike rate of 93.26, including 75 fifties and 51 centuries.

Former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara, who previously held the No. 2 spot, now sits third with 14,234 runs in 404 matches, while Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar continues to top the list with 18,426 runs in 463 ODIs, including 49 centuries.

India, who were staring at a series whitewash, wrapped up the tour on a high by chasing down 237 with 69 balls to spare, finishing at 238 for one. Rohit Sharma remained unbeaten on 121, forging an unbroken 168-run stand with Kohli to seal the victory and end the series 2-1 in Australia’s favour.

Kohli’s achievement further cements his status among the greatest ODI batters of all time, adding another golden chapter to a career marked by consistency and unmatched pursuit of excellence.
