Rawalpindi, October 20,2024– In the General Headquarters (GHQ) attack case related to the events of May 9, details of the charges have been revealed, with a total of 27 serious charges filed against PTI founder Imran Khan and other accused individuals. According to the case’s charge sheet, the accused, under the leadership of former provincial law minister Raja Basharat, allegedly led the attack on GHQ, breaking through the gates, resisting military personnel, and causing significant damage.

The accused are charged with vandalizing sensitive military property, setting fires, and launching attacks using sticks, stones, and petrol bombs. They allegedly stormed into the GHQ after breaking the gate, creating an atmosphere of rebellion, shattering windows of the GHQ building, damaging the reputation of the Pakistan Army, and attacking military employees. Anti-state slogans were raised, and the ISI building was also targeted in what has been described as a well-organized criminal conspiracy.

The charge sheet requests harsh punishments for the accused. The case includes three key witnesses who have turned approvers: former MNA Sadaqat Abbasi, former Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi, and former MPA Umar Tanveer Butt, who have submitted their applications.

Meanwhile, the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) judge, Amjad Ali Shah, has postponed the hearing of the GHQ attack case until October 30. The court distributed copies of the charge sheet to 28 accused individuals, including former Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Usman Dar, Amjad Niazi, and Raja Basharat, for the framing of charges. However, Imran Khan’s charge was delayed due to the lack of a prison trial.

Imran Khan’s legal team submitted requests to the court for telephone conversations with his sons, lawyer meetings, and a medical examination. The court heard the arguments and reserved its decision on the three applications. Additionally, ATC Judge Raja Jawad Abbas extended PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja’s interim bail until October 28 in a case related to protests outside the Supreme Court. Hearings on post-arrest bail requests for Imran Khan’s sisters, Aleema and Uzma, were also adjourned until October 22 due to the judge’s absence.
