Lahore, November 23, 2025: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has declared a zero-tolerance policy against substandard performance and negligence, taking decisive steps to improve governance, sanitation, and public service delivery across the province.

During a high-level review meeting, the Chief Minister assessed performance indicators for Deputy Commissioners and stressed that no leniency would be shown for underperformance. Secret monitoring teams will be deployed in every district to ensure accountability and enforce governance standards rigorously.

Maryam Nawaz expressed serious concern over unsatisfactory cleanliness in several cities. Payments to contractors failing to maintain proper sanitation under the Suthra Punjab program have been immediately suspended, and the government is considering re-tendering contracts where waste management standards are not met. Deputy Commissioners have also been sternly warned to take action against negligence related to stray dog incidents and open manhole accidents.

In public hospitals, shortages of free medicines in some districts prompted strict directives to ensure complete availability, while garbage bins and waste enclosures are being upgraded across every city to meet higher hygiene standards.

Public spaces including parking areas, bus stands, and transport hubs must now maintain exemplary cleanliness. Unauthorized encroachments and illegal constructions will be monitored through CCTV with real-time digital records, while street vendors obstructing traffic will be removed immediately. Market authorities have been directed to provide written assurances of compliance, and violations of official price lists will invite strict action, including arrests.

Highlighting her expectations, Maryam Nawaz said, “There is no room for mistakes in serving the public. Every department must achieve next-level governance. We have given full powers, finances, and trust—now we demand 100% results. While Punjab’s governance is better than other provinces, I am not satisfied. Standards must reach the next level, and seeing garbage bins dirtier than the surroundings is unacceptable.”
