Raipur, December 3, 2025: South Africa pulled off a thrilling four-wicket victory over India in the second ODI on Wednesday, chasing down a daunting target of 359 to level the three-match series 1-1 at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium.
Chasing the massive total, the Proteas were initially in trouble as Quinton de Kock fell for eight off 11 balls, leaving the team 26-1 in 4.5 overs. Aiden Markram and skipper Temba Bavuma then stabilized the innings with a 101-run partnership. Bavuma was dismissed for 46 off 48 balls by Prasidh Krishna, but Markram continued his fine form, scoring his fourth ODI century before falling to Harshit Rana.
Matthew Breetzke (68) and Dewald Brevis (54) played key roles in the middle order, while late contributions from Corbin Bosch (29*) and Keshav Maharaj (10*) helped South Africa reach the target with just four balls to spare.
India, batting first, set a formidable target with centuries from Virat Kohli (102 off 93 balls) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (105 off 83 balls), who shared a 195-run partnership. Openers Rohit Sharma (14) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (22) provided a steady start but fell early to Nandre Burger and Marco Jansen.
Captain KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 66 off 43 balls, while Ravindra Jadeja added 24, pushing India past 350 in a high-scoring effort. Despite the massive total, South Africa’s clinical chase highlighted the depth of their batting and resilience under pressure.
The series will now be decided in the third ODI, with both teams locked at 1-1.
