Islamabad, December 6,2025: The federal government has initiated strict action against individuals accused of creating political unrest, particularly in connection with the May 9 riots.

According to sources, the government has decided to place the PTI founder and several senior party leaders on the Exit Control List (ECL), preventing them from travelling abroad.

The names recommended for inclusion on the ECL include Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Umar Ayub, Fawad Chaudhry, Shibli Faraz, Ali Amin Gandapur, Shehryar Afridi, Usman Dar, Shireen Mazari, Zartaj Gul, Musarrat Cheema, Kanwal Shauzab, Sheikh Rasheed, Sheikh Rashid Shafiq, and retired Major Tahir Sadiq. Raja Basharat and Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi are also among those facing travel restrictions.

Sources said a total of 132 political figures have been added to the list. The Punjab Home Department has forwarded the complete list, along with its recommendations, to the federal government for approval.

Officials said the decision was taken in the context of the May 9 riots, with the ECL Committee having already submitted its recommendations. They added that the move reflects the government’s resolve to act firmly against those linked to political unrest and violence.
