Karachi, December 7, 2025: Several people were detained on Sunday after a Sindh Culture Day rally on Shahrah-e-Faisal turned violent, according to Karachi police.

Officials said participants of the rally pelted police vehicles with stones when law enforcement attempted to divert the procession from Kala Pul towards Saddar. The stone-pelting damaged multiple patrol vans and a water tanker, prompting police to fire tear-gas shells to disperse the crowd.

Police confirmed that at least two individuals were arrested for attacking official vehicles and damaging public property.

The clash also disrupted traffic flow on one of the city’s busiest arteries. Traffic police said Sharea Faisal remained closed at the FTC area for several hours, with vehicles being diverted from Kala Pul to Saddar. The road was later cleared for traffic.

Sindh Home Minister Zia Lanjar took notice of the incident and sought a detailed report from the Additional IG Karachi. He directed police to take strict action against those involved in the violence and ensure immediate arrests of all who damaged government property.

Sindh Culture Day is being celebrated today with traditional zeal, showcasing the province’s centuries-old heritage. The day is observed annually on the first Sunday of December.

In a message earlier in the day, President Asif Ali Zardari said Sindh’s culture represents tolerance, peace and national unity. He stressed the collective responsibility to pass these values on to future generations.

President Zardari also noted Sindh’s historical significance, recalling its emergence as a distinct constitutional and cultural entity after separation from the Bombay Presidency in 1936. He added that Sindh was the first province whose assembly passed the landmark resolution calling for the creation of Pakistan.
