Islamabad, December 9, 2025: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday announced the schedule for local government (LG) elections in the federal capital, setting February 15, 2026 as the polling day.

According to a notification issued by the ECP, the electoral process will commence with the filing of nomination papers by aspiring candidates, followed by their scrutiny, the hearing of appeals, publication of final candidate lists and the allocation of election symbols. The schedule details all administrative and procedural steps aimed at ensuring the smooth conduct of the polls.

The commission said preparations are already under way, including the updating of voter lists, finalisation of polling stations and the training of polling staff. Officials added that the elections will be held under the updated local government framework for Islamabad.

Political parties have begun initial consultations and are expected to finalise their candidates in the coming weeks. Analysts believe the LG elections will be crucial in shaping local governance, improving civic services and strengthening community-level representation in the federal capital.

Reaffirming its commitment to free, fair and transparent elections, the ECP said all necessary arrangements would be completed well ahead of the polling date.
