Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, December 11, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Turkmenistan on Thursday for a two-day official visit, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) confirmed. The visit comes at the invitation of Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdymukhamedov, with whom the premier is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting.

PM Shehbaz and his delegation were welcomed by Mammetkhan Chakyev, Turkmenistan’s deputy chairman of the cabinet of ministers. The Pakistani delegation includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Power Minister Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Special Assistant to the PM Talha Burki, and senior aide Tariq Fatemi.

During the visit, the prime minister will attend a forum in Ashgabat commemorating the International Year of Peace and Trust 2025, the International Day of Neutrality, and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.

Turkmenistan was officially recognized as a neutral state by the United Nations in 1995. According to the UN, neutrality is defined as “the legal status arising from the abstention of a state from all participation in a war between other states, the maintenance of an attitude of impartiality toward the belligerents, and the recognition by the belligerents of this abstention and impartiality.”

The visit is expected to strengthen bilateral ties between Pakistan and Turkmenistan, while promoting dialogue on peace, trust, and regional cooperation.
