Lahore, December 12, 2025: Transporters on Friday called off their strike after successful negotiations with the Punjab government, ending a standoff that had disrupted the movement of goods across the province.

The breakthrough came during talks led by Senior Provincial Minister Mariam Aurangzeb, who met with representatives of various transport associations to defuse the crisis. After extensive discussions, the government assured the transporters that their concerns would be reviewed through a structured and formal mechanism.

To address the issues raised by transporters, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz constituted a committee tasked with examining and resolving the sector’s grievances. The committee, chaired by Aurangzeb, also includes representatives of transport unions. Its first meeting is scheduled for Saturday.

The reconciliation agreement was signed on behalf of the transporters by Haji Sher Ali, Central President of the Goods Transport Alliance.

Welcoming the decision to end the strike, Aurangzeb said the government remained committed to resolving all outstanding matters through dialogue, cooperation and mutual understanding. She added that maintaining smooth supply chains was essential for both the provincial economy and the public.

The transporters’ strike had halted goods movement in several districts, raising concerns over potential shortages if the deadlock persisted. The agreement is expected to normalize operations across Punjab starting immediately.
