Karachi, December 22, 2025: Danish Ambassador to Pakistan Maja Derrous Mortensen concluded her first official visit to Karachi with a series of high-level engagements, highlighting the depth, diversity, and growing momentum of Denmark–Pakistan collaboration in trade, sustainability, and climate action. The visit underscored Denmark’s expanding economic footprint in Pakistan and its long-term commitment to sustainable and inclusive growth.

During her stay, the Ambassador engaged with leading Danish companies operating in Pakistan, including Novonesis, Shipco, and DSV, gaining first-hand insights into their operations in bio-solutions, shipping, and logistics. Company representatives briefed her on managing large-scale operations across Pakistan, investment opportunities, and the evolving business environment, while also sharing experiences of innovation, supply chain development, and regulatory engagement in the local market.

Ambassador Mortensen also met key Pakistani partners of Danish businesses, reflecting the strong public-private and business-to-business linkages between the two countries. These included MAJ International, which collaborates with renowned Danish firms such as Arla Foods, Palsgaard, AAL, and Novonesis, and Soorty Enterprises, one of Pakistan’s major denim manufacturers and a leading supplier to the Danish fashion brand Bestseller, alongside other international labels. Discussions focused on value-chain integration, sustainable manufacturing, and expanding exports under responsible and climate-smart business models.

A key highlight of the visit was the Ambassador’s participation in a Danish-funded workshop organised by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) on Mainstreaming Climate Action in Economic and Fiscal Planning. The workshop forms part of Denmark’s continued support for advancing Pakistan’s Climate Prosperity Plan under an SDG-focused initiative, aimed at aligning climate resilience with economic development and fiscal reforms. Experts, policymakers, and development partners discussed pathways to embed climate considerations into national planning and budgeting processes.

The visit concluded with a courtesy call on the Governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori, where both sides explored avenues to further strengthen Danish–Pakistani collaboration in Sindh, particularly in areas such as renewable energy, sustainable industry, climate resilience, skills development, and green investment.

Overall, Ambassador Mortensen’s Karachi visit reinforced the strong partnership between Denmark and Pakistan, reflecting shared priorities on sustainability, innovation, and economic cooperation, and a common vision for long-term, inclusive, and climate-resilient growth.
