Lahore, January 9, 2026: Punjab is set to introduce satellite internet services, marking a major step toward bridging the digital divide and becoming the first province in Pakistan to launch such services.

Senior Advisor to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Senator Anusha Rahman, announced that the initiative aims to provide high-speed internet access to underserved and remote areas across the province. She said that Pakistan’s space agency SUPARCO, in collaboration with the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC), will establish two satellite internet demonstration stations in North and South Punjab within the next two weeks.

According to Senator Rahman, the satellite internet service is expected to be rolled out in remote areas of Punjab within the next six months. She said the project leverages Pakistan’s advanced satellite capabilities and aligns with the Punjab government’s broader agenda of digital inclusion and technological innovation.

The initiative is in line with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision to digitally empower Punjab by expanding reliable internet connectivity, particularly in areas where conventional infrastructure remains limited.

As part of the project, a pilot satellite internet initiative has already been launched in schools, starting with DPS Model Town in Lahore. The pilot aims to enhance digital access for students in remote regions and is being implemented in collaboration with the Punjab government, UAE-based ADM Holding, and OneWeb NEOM.

Officials said the project is expected to play a key role in improving access to education, e-governance and digital services across the province.
