Israeli strikes kill dozens in Northern Gaza as ceasefire talks resume

Gaza, October 27,2024- Israeli airstrikes killed at least 45 Palestinians, mainly in northern Gaza, on Sunday, as ceasefire talks resumed in Qatar. High-level negotiations, involving the heads of the CIA and Mossad and mediated by Qatar’s prime minister, are focused on securing a short-term ceasefire and a potential hostage-prisoner exchange. The proposed ceasefire, aimed at lasting less than a month, is intended to pave the way for a more lasting truce.

The United States, Qatar, and Egypt have led efforts to end the conflict, which began when Hamas launched a deadly attack on southern Israel on October 7 last year. Since then, Gaza’s health officials report that Israeli retaliation has left nearly 43,000 dead in Gaza, with widespread devastation. Sunday’s airstrikes included an attack on a school in Shati camp, killing nine, and a strike on Jabalia refugee camp that claimed 20 lives. Israel reports that its forces killed over 40 militants in Jabalia in the past 24 hours and neutralized a militant cell in central Gaza.
