Islamabad, February 11, 2026: Romania’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dan Stoenescu, reaffirmed his country’s strong support for Ukraine while commemorating four years since the start of Russia’s invasion, describing the conflict as a prolonged tragedy that has impacted millions.

Speaking at an event in Islamabad, Ambassador Stoenescu noted that millions of people have been killed, wounded, or displaced since the war began, calling it a major crisis in the heart of Europe.

He underscored Romania’s consistent backing of Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression, emphasizing respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law. Romania, he said, has provided substantial humanitarian assistance, facilitated the transit of Ukrainian grain through its ports to help protect global food security, and contributed to European Union and NATO initiatives aimed at strengthening regional security, particularly in the Black Sea region.

The ambassador also stated that any peace settlement must be determined by Ukraine itself and clarified that Romania has ruled out deploying combat troops to the conflict. He stressed that respect for international law requires rejecting neutrality when fundamental principles such as sovereignty and territorial integrity are under attack.

The commemorative event was organized by EU Member States in collaboration with the EU Delegation and hosted by the Embassy of Poland. It was attended by diplomats from several friendly countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Norway, and Japan, along with journalists, civil society representatives, and notable Pakistani guests.
