Islamabad, February 12, 2026: The 20th meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication was held at Parliament House under the chairmanship of MNA Syed Amin ul Haq, where members deliberated on key legislative and budgetary matters.

The Committee conducted a detailed review of The Pakistan Telecommunication (Re-Organization) (Amendment) Bill, 2026 (Government Bill). During the clause-by-clause reading, members proposed several amendments. Following comprehensive deliberations, the Committee approved the bill with the recommended amendments.

The Committee also took up The Electronic Transactions (Amendment) Bill, 2026 for consideration. However, members belonging to the Pakistan People’s Party objected that the bill had not yet been presented before the party’s Parliamentary Legislative Committee. They maintained that it would be inappropriate to proceed without parliamentary consensus. After mutual consultation, the Committee decided to defer the bill until the next meeting, with the understanding that it would be reconsidered once consensus is achieved.

Additionally, scrutiny of budgetary proposals related to the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) of the Ministry of Information Technology and its attached departments for the financial year 2026–27 was postponed to the next session.

The meeting was attended by the Federal Minister, MNAs Ahmad Atteeq Anwar, Ammar Ahmad Khan Leghari, Zulfiqar Ali Bhatti, Gulnaz Shahzadi, Syed Ali Qasim Gillani, Dr. Mahesh Kumar Malani, Sadiq Ali Memon, Sharmila Sahiba Faruqi Hashaam, Ahmad Saleem Siddiqui, and Pullain Baloch, along with officials from the Ministry and its affiliated departments.
