Rome, February 25, 2026: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday met Greek Minister for Migration and Asylum Athanasios Plevris in Rome, where the two sides agreed to take joint measures to combat illegal immigration and human smuggling.

During the meeting, both ministers decided to enhance bilateral cooperation to promote legal migration and agreed to increase the number of work visas in order to provide lawful migration pathways and discourage irregular movement.

The two sides also agreed to finalize the long-pending Migration Cooperation Agreement between Pakistan and Greece, which has remained unresolved for the past two years. It was further decided to establish a Joint Working Group to strengthen institutional coordination and mutual cooperation.

Greek Minister Athanasios Plevris appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to curb illegal immigration and human smuggling, while both ministers agreed on the need for improved coordination in the future.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said Pakistan would welcome Greece’s support in enhancing the professional capacity of police and paramilitary forces, particularly in technology-driven operations. He stressed that strengthening cooperation on legal migration is essential to effectively address illegal immigration.

He reiterated that Pakistan has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against illegal immigration and human smuggling.

The Greek Minister reaffirmed Greece’s readiness to expand cooperation with Pakistan at all levels to promote legal migration and address shared challenges.

During the meeting, officers of the Punjab Police briefed the delegation on the Police Khidmat Markaz Global Initiative, which was appreciated by the Greek side.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Italy Ali Javed, Director General Federal Investigation Agency Usman Anwar, Managing Director Punjab Safe Cities Authority Ahsan Younas, and senior police officers Sohail Chaudhry and Abid Khan were also present at the meeting.
