Islamabad, March 8, 2026: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has said that women play a fundamental and indispensable role in the progress, prosperity, and stability of any society.
In his message on International Women’s Day, he stated that Pakistani women have brought pride to the nation by achieving remarkable success in diverse fields, including politics, the economy, education, healthcare, and social services.
Gilani emphasized that ensuring equal opportunities for women, providing them with a safe and dignified environment, and enabling them to participate effectively in national development is a shared responsibility of both the state and society. He noted that Parliament has taken significant legislative and practical steps to safeguard women’s rights and promote their education, economic empowerment, and social inclusion.
The Senate chairman paid tribute to Fatima Jinnah for her remarkable leadership during the struggle for Pakistan, describing her dedication, courage, and vision as a lasting source of inspiration for Pakistani women.
He also honored Begum Ra’ana Liaquat Ali Khan and other courageous Muslim women who played a key role in the struggle for the creation of Pakistan and later contributed significantly to the country’s development, social welfare, and democratic strengthening. Gilani said their sacrifices and services continue to serve as a guiding light for future generations.
The chairman further paid glowing tribute to Benazir Bhutto, the first elected female prime minister of Pakistan and the Muslim world. He said the late leader made historic efforts to secure a prominent place for women in national politics and leadership, opening a new chapter of hope and empowerment for women not only in Pakistan but across the Muslim world.
Gilani also noted that the Pakistan Peoples Party has consistently played an important role in safeguarding women’s rights, promoting their political representation, and supporting their social and economic development by providing leadership opportunities.
He stressed the need for more effective measures to advance women’s education, economic independence, and empowerment so they can contribute more actively to the country’s progress and prosperity. Empowering women, he said, is essential for building a strong, prosperous, and stable Pakistan.
Appreciating the contributions of Pakistani women, the Senate chairman expressed hope that they will continue to utilize their abilities and dedication to play a significant role in the nation’s development in the years to come.
