ISLAMABAD: President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan have been summoned by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Nawaz Sharif has been asked by the electoral management body to appear in  reference filed by him seeking disqualification of ‘PML-N MNA’ Adil Bazai while Imran Khan has been summoned in the contempt case.

Bazai who contested the polls as independent candidate from NA-262 (Quetta) but after winning the election joined the PML-N.

The PML-N’s President in his reference to the Speaker was of the opinion that the party’s lawmaker has become dissident, therefore, the electoral body should de-seat Adil Bazai.

Hearing of the Nawaz Sharif’s reference will be conducted by the ECP on November 5.

Meanwhile, the ECP has summoned PTI founder Imran Khan in a contempt case. Alleged usage of derogatory language against the ECP led to the filing of a case against Imran Khan and Fawad Chaudhry.

Its worth mentioning here that PTI founder Imran Khan and former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry were indicted in the ECP contempt case on January 3, 2024.

The ECP issued notices to the founder of PTI and others in 2022 for allegedly using “intemperate” language against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja and the electoral watchdog.

The political leaders repeatedly lambasted the commission and CEC Sikandar Raja and termed the electoral body a “subsidiary of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz”.
