Islamabad, March 10, 2026: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, chaired a meeting with senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to review the implementation of austerity measures recently announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

During the meeting, Dar emphasized the importance of maintaining fiscal discipline and ensuring the prudent use of public resources in line with the government’s broader economic strategy. He stressed that the ministry’s operations should align with the government’s commitment to economic responsibility and efficient governance.

The deputy prime minister directed officials to adopt efficient administrative practices and limit expenditures to essential commitments. He also instructed the ministry to identify areas where operational costs could be optimized without compromising Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach and consular services.

Reaffirming the Foreign Ministry’s full support for the government’s austerity drive, Dar underscored the institution’s commitment to transparency, responsible governance, and the efficient utilization of public funds while continuing to safeguard Pakistan’s foreign policy interests.

The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Foreign Ministry and focused on ensuring that cost-saving measures are implemented effectively without affecting key diplomatic functions.
