Islamabad, April 5, 2026: Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar on Sunday said Pakistan’s security forces successfully foiled an attempted attack by Afghan Taliban-linked militants on a border post in the Ghulam Khan sector of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing at least 37 attackers and injuring more than 80.

According to the minister, the attempted assault took place on the night between April 2 and 3 as part of the ongoing military campaign, Operation Ghazab lil-Haq. He stated that security forces responded effectively, preventing the attackers from breaching the post and inflicting heavy casualties.

In a post on X, Tarar said the militants—described as Afghan Taliban elements and “Fitna al Khawarij,” a term used by the state for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)—suffered significant losses during the failed operation.

Providing an update on the broader operation, the minister said that since its launch, a total of 796 militants and Afghan Taliban operatives have been killed, while more than 1,043 have been injured.

He added that security forces have destroyed 286 militant posts and captured 44 others. Additionally, 249 pieces of military equipment—including tanks, armoured vehicles, artillery, and drones—have been destroyed.

Tarar further stated that 81 militant hideouts and support infrastructure sites across Afghanistan had been targeted through air operations.

Operation Ghazab lil-Haq was launched on February 26 following cross-border firing incidents attributed to Afghan Taliban elements. Although a temporary pause was observed on March 18 at the request of “brotherly Islamic countries,” Pakistan resumed the operation on March 26, vowing to continue until its objectives are fully achieved.

aThe latest development underscores the ongoing volatility along the پاکستان-Afghanistan border and the continued efforts by Pakistani forces to counter militant threats in the region.
