Lahore, April 26, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced the establishment of a 50-acre Film City in Lahore, describing it as a landmark initiative aimed at reviving and modernising Pakistan’s film and entertainment sector.

The project will be developed within the Nawaz Sharif IT City and is being presented as Pakistan’s first fully integrated media production hub. According to the chief minister, the facility will bring together film, television, animation, and digital media production under one roof, equipped with modern infrastructure and advanced technology.

She said the initiative is designed to reduce Pakistan’s reliance on foreign countries for post-production and visual effects work while strengthening the capabilities of local filmmakers and content creators.

The proposed Film City will include modern studios, sound stages, post-production labs, and fully equipped shooting areas. The design also features dedicated film sets and a central lake to support large-scale productions. In addition, convention halls will be constructed to host international film festivals, award ceremonies, and industry exhibitions.

Officials said the project will also include a media trade hub along with film and music schools to train young professionals. Authorities expect it to generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs while promoting emerging sectors such as animation, gaming, and digital media.

Maryam Nawaz said the initiative will help strengthen Punjab’s creative economy by integrating talent, technology, and business opportunities on a single platform. She added that the project will be executed in phases, with further details to be announced later.

The Film City is part of the broader Nawaz Sharif IT City project, an 853-acre development near PKLI. The provincial government has allocated an initial Rs10 billion for the initiative.

The larger IT City plan includes an information technology and innovation district, an education city, commercial and residential zones, and special economic areas aimed at attracting both local and foreign investment. The total project cost is estimated at around Rs100 billion, with authorities projecting up to one million jobs over time.

To encourage investment, the government has also announced a 10-year tax exemption for businesses operating within the project area.

Officials said construction will begin soon after land transfer procedures are completed, marking what they described as a new phase in Pakistan’s media, technology, and creative industries.
