Kyiv, May 5, 2026: Ukraine on Tuesday extended greetings to Portuguese-speaking nations across the world on the occasion of World Portuguese Language Day, highlighting the global importance of the Portuguese language in connecting diverse cultures and communities.
In a statement marking the occasion, Ukraine described Portuguese as a truly global language that unites millions of people across different continents while reflecting a rich diversity of cultures, identities and traditions.
The statement noted that the Portuguese language continues to play a significant role in diplomacy, culture, science and international cooperation, helping foster dialogue, mutual understanding and closer relations among nations.
Ukraine also expressed appreciation for its relations with Portuguese-speaking countries around the world and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening friendly engagement and cooperation based on shared principles of freedom, democracy and a rules-based international order.
Portuguese language is one of the world’s most widely spoken languages, serving as the official language in several countries across Europe, South America, Africa and Asia, including Portugal, Brazil, Angola and Mozambique.
