Chairman Senate, Finance Minister discuss austerity measures and institutional reforms

Islamabad, May 8,2026: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani met with Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb at the Parliament House to discuss financial discipline, institutional reforms and the government’s austerity measures.

During the meeting, Chairman Senate Gilani briefed the finance minister on the cost-cutting and austerity initiatives implemented by the Senate Secretariat, stating that the measures had resulted in substantial financial savings.

According to an official statement issued by the Senate Secretariat’s Media Directorate, the finance minister appreciated the Senate Secretariat’s austerity drive and described the savings as a positive example of responsible governance, institutional efficiency and fiscal discipline.

Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani stressed that public institutions must adopt practical measures to minimize unnecessary expenditures and ensure the efficient utilization of national resources.

He said simplicity, transparency and fiscal responsibility were essential for strengthening democratic institutions and enhancing public confidence in governance.

The chairman senate also praised the government’s ongoing economic stabilization efforts and expressed optimism that continued reforms and prudent economic policymaking would contribute to sustainable growth and improved economic conditions for the people.

Both sides reaffirmed the importance of institutional cooperation and coordinated efforts to effectively tackle economic challenges and promote national development.
