Karachi, May 14,2026: Former captain of the Pakistan women’s national cricket team Sana Mir has expressed gratitude and pride after being awarded the prestigious Sitara-i-Imtiaz, Pakistan’s third-highest civilian award.

The award was presented to Sana Mir by Faisal Karim Kundi during a ceremony held on Wednesday.

Reacting to the honor, the former Pakistan captain shared an emotional message on social media, thanking the Government of Pakistan and acknowledging the support of her family throughout her journey.

“Humbled and extremely grateful to be awarded Sitara-e-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan,” Sana Mir wrote.

“Delighted to have my family with me; people who love, show up and support through the hardest times,” she added.

Sana Mir, who made her international debut in December 2005, is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in Pakistan women’s cricket. During her distinguished international career, she represented Pakistan in 120 One-Day Internationals and 106 T20 Internationals.

The former off-spinner claimed 240 international wickets across white-ball formats and scored 2,450 runs, including three half-centuries. She achieved several historic milestones during her career, becoming the first Pakistani woman cricketer to top the ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings.

Sana Mir was also the first Asian woman cricketer to play 100 T20 Internationals and the first Pakistani woman to appear in 100 ODIs. In another landmark achievement, she became the first female cricketer to be named Pakistan Cricket Board Cricketer of the Year.

Mir served as captain of Pakistan women’s cricket team for nearly eight years, making her one of the longest-serving captains in the team’s history. Under her leadership, Pakistan won gold medals at the Asian Games and Asian Games women’s cricket competitions.

Last year, Sana Mir was inducted into the International Cricket Council Hall of Fame, becoming the first Pakistani woman cricketer to receive the honor.

She also became only the eighth Pakistani cricketer overall to enter the prestigious list, joining legendary names such as Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Javed Miandad, Abdul Qadir, Zaheer Abbas, Waqar Younis, and Hanif Mohammad. Mir was also only the 14th female cricketer in the world to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.
