Islamabad, May 15, 2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Privatisation on Friday to review key matters related to Pakistan’s power sector reforms.

The committee discussed the proposed privatization of three major power distribution companies — Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO), Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO), and Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) — as part of efforts to improve operational efficiency and ensure financial sustainability in the electricity distribution system.

According to an official statement, the committee approved the proposed transaction structure and decided to offer an outright sale of 51 percent to 100 percent share capital in each distribution company along with management control, subject to final approval by the federal cabinet.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar said the initiative aims to strengthen service delivery, ensure a more reliable electricity supply, and introduce greater private sector efficiency into the power sector.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Power, Adviser on Privatisation, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, Secretary Cabinet, Secretary Privatisation Commission, Secretary Privatisation Division, Secretary Power Division, Chairman of National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), Chairman of Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), and senior officials from relevant ministries and departments.
