Baku, November 11, 2024 -Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to travel to Baku, Azerbaijan, on Tuesday to participate in the World Leaders Climate Action Summit, a two-day event held as part of the 29th UN Climate Change Conference (COP29).

Hosted by Azerbaijan, the summit will gather global leaders to share national strategies for advancing the Paris Agreement’s goals on climate change. During the event, Azerbaijan will collaborate with the United States and China to host a summit focusing on methane and non-carbon dioxide (non-CO2) greenhouse gases.

Prime Minister Shehbaz is expected to deliver a strong appeal for climate solidarity and climate justice, emphasizing equity as a core principle.

Ahead of the summit, PM’s Coordinator on Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam, and the climate change ministry’s secretary met with former Maldives President Muhammad Nasheed, who visited Pakistan’s pavilion at COP29 in Baku.
