Sylhet, May 17, 2026: Hosts Bangladesh National Cricket Team strengthened their position in the second and final Test against Pakistan National Cricket Team on Sunday, ending day two in a dominant position at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

At stumps, Bangladesh were 110 for 3 in their second innings, extending their overall lead to 156 runs and firmly placing themselves in control of the match.

Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto remained unbeaten on 13, while Mominul Haque fell on the final delivery of the day after contributing 30 runs.

Bangladesh suffered an early setback when Tanzid Hasan was dismissed in the fourth over, but Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Mominul Haque rebuilt the innings with a crucial partnership.

Joy was in fine form, scoring a fluent 52 off 64 balls, including 10 boundaries, before being dismissed by Mohammad Abbas. His innings marked his sixth Test half-century.

Shanto and Mominul then steadied the innings, guiding Bangladesh past the 100-run mark before Khurram Shahzad removed Haque to end the day’s play.

Earlier in the match, Pakistan were bowled out for 232 in their first innings, giving Bangladesh a 46-run lead after the first innings.

Former captain Babar Azam top-scored for Pakistan with a fighting 68 off 84 balls, hitting 10 fours before being dismissed by Nahid Rana.

Sajid Khan contributed a quick 38 off 28 deliveries, while Shan Masood and Salman Ali Agha added 21 runs each.

For Bangladesh, Nahid Rana and Taijul Islam led the bowling attack with three wickets apiece, while Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz took two wickets each.

Bangladesh’s first innings had earlier produced 278 runs, anchored by a brilliant century from Litton Das, who scored 126 off 159 deliveries with 16 fours and two sixes.

Despite collapsing to 116 for 6 at one stage, Bangladesh recovered through key lower-order partnerships, with support from Taijul Islam and Shoriful Islam.

For Pakistan, Khurram Shahzad was the standout bowler with four wickets, while Mohammad Abbas took three and Hasan Ali claimed two wickets.
