Rawalpindi, May 23, 2026: Field Marshal General Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, has concluded a short but “highly productive” official visit to Iran, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Friday.

The military’s media wing said the visit was part of ongoing mediation efforts aimed at promoting de-escalation and constructive engagement amid regional tensions that have persisted following the ceasefire of April 8, 2026.

During the visit, Field Marshal Asim Munir held high-level meetings with senior Iranian leadership, including Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.

According to the ISPR, discussions focused on expediting the ongoing consultative process aimed at supporting regional peace and stability and reaching a conclusive agreement through dialogue.

The statement said the engagements were held in a “positive and constructive environment” and contributed meaningfully to the mediation process.

It further noted that intensive negotiations conducted over the last 24 hours had resulted in “encouraging progress” toward a final understanding.

The Iranian leadership appreciated Pakistan’s “sincere and constructive role” in facilitating dialogue and promoting a peaceful settlement of regional issues, the ISPR added.

Upon his arrival in Iran, the field marshal was received by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni along with senior civil and military officials.
