Islamabad, June 4, 2026: President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Sardar Tahir Mehmood, has reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to protecting the interests of traders and addressing their concerns through effective engagement with government institutions.

He made these remarks while addressing a delegation of the Traders Welfare Association Moti Bazar Bara Kahu, which visited ICCI under the leadership of its president, Qamar Abbasi.

Welcoming the newly elected office-bearers of the association, Sardar Tahir Mehmood congratulated them on assuming their responsibilities and described the business community as the backbone of the national economy. He said ICCI was actively engaging with key institutions, including the Capital Development Authority (CDA), the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI), district administration, and other government departments to resolve issues affecting traders.

The ICCI president emphasized the importance of unity within the business community and encouraged traders to strengthen their association with the Chamber through greater membership and participation.

“A united business community can more effectively raise its voice and secure its legitimate rights,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Qamar Abbasi highlighted several civic and commercial challenges facing traders and residents of Bara Kahu. He called for meetings with the Inspector General of Police Islamabad, the Commissioner Islamabad, the CDA chairman, MCI authorities, and other relevant officials to address longstanding issues.

He particularly drew attention to the acute shortage of drinking water in Bara Kahu and urged the authorities to take immediate corrective measures.

Former ICCI president and Secretary General of the United Business Group, Zafar Bakhtawari, observed that challenges facing the business community were increasing over time and stressed the need for greater unity among traders to safeguard their interests.

Meanwhile, President of the All Pakistan Anjuman-e-Tajran, Mohammad Ajmal Baloch, urged the bureaucracy to adopt a consultative approach when implementing policies affecting traders. He warned that the business community could be compelled to launch protests if its concerns continued to be overlooked.

Former ICCI President Mohammad Ejaz Abbasi praised the continued support of the Bara Kahu business community for the Chamber’s Founder Group and acknowledged its contribution to strengthening the organization.

General Secretary of the Traders Welfare Association and ICCI Executive Member Umer Khayyam Abbasi reiterated traders’ support for the Founder Group and expressed confidence in the current ICCI leadership’s ability to address local business concerns.

Group Leader of the association, Malik Ashfaq, encouraged traders to remain focused on their businesses despite prevailing challenges and continue contributing to national economic development.

In his concluding remarks, ICCI Vice President Irfan Chaudhry assured the delegation that the Chamber would continue to stand alongside the business community and pursue the resolution of traders’ issues at every relevant forum.

The event was conducted by former Senior Vice President ICCI Khalid Chaudhry and was attended by ICCI executive members, senior Chamber representatives, and a large number of traders and business leaders from Bara Kahu and surrounding areas.
