Islamabad, November 15, 2024 – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir has emphasized the urgent need for comprehensive laws to combat false information and hate speech, which he warned are destabilizing Pakistan’s political and social fabric. Speaking at the Margalla Dialogue 2024 in Islamabad, he highlighted Pakistan’s pivotal role in advancing regional and global peace while addressing the growing challenges posed by misinformation, extremism, and global inequalities.

Chief of Army Staff said that the rapid spread of false narratives and hate speech, exacerbated by advancements in technology, poses a major threat to national stability.

Without effective regulations, misinformation undermines societal values and fuels inequality, intolerance, and division along religious, sectarian, and ethnic lines.

He said that Pakistan remains steadfast in its fight against terrorism, addressing it as a shared challenge for humanity.

A robust border management regime has been established to secure western borders against threats from the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), with expectations from Afghanistan to prevent the misuse of its territory by terrorists.

Stabilizing the region is a cornerstone of National Action Plan (NAP), aiming to eradicate extremism and terrorism.

Pakistan continues its humanitarian efforts, including aid to Gaza and Lebanon, and advocates for an independent Palestinian state.

Criticizing India’s extremist ideology, General Munir highlighted the plight of minorities within India and in Indian-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, stressing the need for a solution based on UN resolutions and Kashmiri aspirations.

Pakistan maintains a policy of non-alignment in global conflicts while actively contributing to peacekeeping and humanitarian missions.

With its unique geographical location, rich natural resources, and strong agricultural output, Pakistan is a crucial player in global trade, linking Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East.

Pakistan’s youth (63% under the age of 30) and its burgeoning freelancing industry position it as a global force in innovation and development.

Over 235,000 Pakistanis have served in UN peacekeeping missions, with 181 sacrifices made in the line of duty, underscoring Pakistan’s commitment to global peace.

In his concluding remarks, General Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering resolve to fight terrorism and promote stability, both domestically and internationally, ensuring a peaceful and prosperous future for its people and the region.
