Islamabad, July 2, 2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Thursday chaired a meeting to review preparations for the 2027 SAARC Games, reaffirming the government’s commitment to hosting the regional sporting event in Pakistan in line with international standards.
According to an official statement, the meeting decided to immediately establish the SAARC Games Secretariat in Islamabad, fast-track the upgradation of the Pakistan Sports Complex, and constitute key sub-committees to oversee finances, infrastructure and venue management.
The government also reiterated its commitment to extending full support and cooperation to national sports federations to help prepare and train athletes for strong performances at the 2027 Games.
During the meeting, Dar said the government was committed to promoting sports and games activities across the country, adding that hosting major events such as the SAARC Games would help strengthen Pakistan’s soft image internationally.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Rana Sanaullah Khan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, the secretary of the Inter-Provincial Coordination Ministry, senior officials from provincial departments, the Pakistan Sports Board and other relevant government institutions.
