Dar chairs SCO follow-up meeting, reviews preparations for 2027 summit

Islamabad, July 6, 2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Monday chaired the fourth meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Follow-up Committee to review preparations for Pakistan’s upcoming SCO Council of Heads of State (CHS) chairmanship and the 2027 summit to be hosted in Islamabad.

According to the Foreign Office, the meeting reviewed arrangements related to Pakistan’s SCO CHS Chairmanship for the 2026–27 term as well as preparations for the SCO CHS Summit scheduled to take place in Islamabad in 2027.

Sub-committees briefed the meeting on progress made in key areas, including venue arrangements, accommodation, security, finance, media management, transport and logistics for visiting delegations.

During the meeting, Dar directed the heads of the sub-committees to expedite work on all pending matters and ensure timely implementation of decisions taken by the forum.

He emphasized the importance of the summit and called on all departments concerned to treat preparations for the event as a national responsibility.

The meeting was attended by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, the federal secretaries of foreign affairs, cabinet, defence and interior, as well as the chief commissioner and inspector general of Islamabad, along with senior officials from relevant departments.
