Islamabad, July 13, 2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Monday reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to multilateralism and the central role of the United Nations during a meeting with Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, a candidate for the post of United Nations secretary-general.
According to the Foreign Office, Rodrigues-Birkett called on the deputy prime minister in Islamabad as part of her engagement with member states during her candidacy for the UN’s top position.
During the meeting, Dar reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and stressed the organization’s indispensable role in addressing global challenges and promoting international peace and security.
He underscored the importance of upholding international law, honouring treaty obligations and ensuring the faithful implementation of United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly with regard to the longstanding Jammu and Kashmir dispute and the situation in Palestine.
The deputy prime minister also emphasized the need for meaningful reforms to enable the United Nations to effectively respond to emerging global challenges while addressing the priorities and development needs of developing countries.
The meeting reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued support for a stronger, more effective and representative United Nations capable of addressing contemporary international challenges.
