Lahore, November 17,2024-Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb has expressed optimism about the improvement in smog conditions in Punjab, citing the impact of the Detox Punjab campaign, changes in eastern winds, and artificial rain.

In a statement on smog control efforts, Aurangzeb highlighted the measures implemented on Friday, which, with the coordinated efforts of various institutions, are expected to significantly reduce smog levels across Punjab. “Inshallah, these steps will help free Punjab from smog,” she stated.

Aurangzeb emphasized that the Detox Punjab campaign is playing a pivotal role in improving air quality not just in Lahore but also in Rawalpindi and other regions. Anti-smog operations are being carried out vigorously in Lahore, where a ban remains in place on the entry of smoke-emitting heavy vehicles and trucks.

The minister urged citizens to continue efforts to eliminate smog sources in their areas. “Every citizen’s cooperation is essential to combat smog,” she said, adding that the contributions of teams from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), police, transport departments, and other Punjab government institutions are commendable.

“Every officer and team member working to reduce smog is a hero,” Aurangzeb remarked, acknowledging the tough decisions being made to protect public health and safety.

She also appealed to the public to minimize unnecessary outdoor activities and to wear masks as a precautionary measure against smog.
