Islamabad, November 18, 2024 – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday directed authorities to step up measures against tax evaders, emphasizing the critical role of accountability in ensuring economic stability.

During a high-level meeting to review the country’s economic situation, the prime minister was briefed by the Ministry of Finance on recent talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

PM Shehbaz stated that Pakistan is on the path to economic recovery, crediting government initiatives for boosting investor confidence and revitalizing the stock market. He highlighted significant economic milestones, including a sharp drop in inflation from 38% to 7% and a reduction in the interest rate from 22% to 15%. These measures, he noted, have fostered business growth and created employment opportunities.

“Our economy is stabilizing, and we are committed to providing relief to the public,” the prime minister affirmed. “Every step we take is aimed at fulfilling the promises made to the people.”

He also praised Punjab’s leadership for its agricultural reforms and announced plans to focus on increasing exports and remittances to strengthen foreign exchange reserves.

Calling for stricter action against tax evaders, PM Shehbaz declared, “Tax evasion and its facilitators will be held accountable. National progress requires everyone to shoulder their fair share of responsibility.”

The prime minister reiterated his government’s resolve to sustain the momentum of economic reforms while ensuring fairness and transparency in revenue collection.
